It’s important to recognize that there are two types of hair loss: temporary and permanent. Each has different causes and, in many cases, different treatments.
With permanent hair loss-female pattern baldness or androgenic alopecia-a woman is genetically predisposed. It occurs in almost 20% of women, and it makes up a large portion of female hair-loss cases. Symptoms can start as early as one’s teens or twenties.
Temporary hair loss can be caused by medical conditions, pregnancy, emotional stress, dieting, surgery, hormones, or even the way you style your hair. Once the stress is alleviated, the hair growth usually resumes normally.
If you’re experiencing any type of hair loss, see your doctor so it’s accurately assessed and properly treated.
