Hair-Friendly Hair Color

Hair-Friendly Hair Color featured image

I’ve been highlighting my hair since I was 13, so very few people know me as anything other than blonde. (Thanks, Brian at Frederic Fekkai!) But on my last visit he shared an interesting tidbit of information with me: Permanent hair color contains a mixture of ammonia and peroxide, which can dry out the hair and damage it.

Using an ammonia-free hair color can prevent the scalp from stinging and becoming itchy, and can also help the hair cuticle return to its original state after coloring, in turn creating more shine for a natural look. Word has it that ammonia-free color also prevents hair from growing in with a demarcation line, so naturally I’m all for that.
