If there’s one celebrity who has always been invested in wellness, it’s Gwyneth Paltrow. Not only is she always in the news talking about her latest healthy beauty treatment, but she also launched the popular wellness site, Goop, a few years ago.
However, according to an interview on Byrdie.com with one of Paltrow’s go-to doctors, cardiologist Alejandro Junger, MD, exercise and a healthy diet can essentially amount to nothing if you make this one mistake: ignore your mental health.

According to Junger, even if you’re eating flawlessly, taking supplements regularly and doing yoga every morning, you’ll still “look and feel like crap” if you’re fixating on your wellness state. Translation: People are so anxious about staying healthy via excessive exercise, crash diets and high dosages of vitamins that it’s bringing their stress levels to a seriously unhealthy level, completely destroying any feel-good benefits that come from clean eating and exercise.
So, in order to stay healthy without raising your anxiety levels, Junger recommends starting small. “Everyone is so concerned about what to eat for perfect health. But I always say to my patients, it is more important for you to learn what not to eat than to learn what to eat.” Instead of worrying so much about perfecting your diet and exercise routine, ensure you’re implementing balance into your life. Stop worrying about being an example of perfect health and let any guilt—from skipping a workout to overindulging in carbs—go. Your mind, body and soul will thank you!
