We see it on the red carpet all the time. Celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow, Kelly Rowland, Brandi Glanville and Jennifer Lawrence go braless on a regular occasion. Sure, some of these women have breast implants, which allows for perky breasts with or without a bra, but even celebs with natural breasts ditch the underwire sometimes. And as it turns out; it might just be better for their chest.

A new study out of France (of course) has found that “medically, physiologically and anatomically” breasts “gain no benefit from being denied gravity.” In fact, women who didn’t wear bras had a perkier bust. Shocking, we know.

Over a 15-year time period, researches from the University of Besançon in eastern France, measured the breasts of 330 women ages 18-35. They found that women who didn’t wear bras had stronger breast muscles, which caused the breast to naturally lift and the nipples to be higher in relation to the shoulders. This means that breasts gain more tone and support themselves if no bra is worn.

Lead professor Jean-Denis Rouillon says that using a bra means “supporting tissues will not grow” and the supporting breast muscle structure degrades. However, he does note that going braless is not for everyone stating “It would be of no benefit to a 45-year-old mother to stop wearing a bra [now].”

Do you think this is good news or bad news? Are you ready to ditch your bra? Read more on breast augmentation here.
