According to celebrity trainer Teddy Bass, who works with A-list celebrities like Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate, the back can be one of the hardest parts of the body to get into better shape; mainly because back fat is caused by genetics, diet, and a lack of exercise. But you can transform your back.
“The first step in creating a slimmer back is to reduce the percentage of overall body fat,” Bass says. Then, add high-intensity cardio exercises and weight training into your workout. “Reverse flies and tricep exercises like dips, back rows and lat pull-downs will help target the area. You’ll start to build muscle and decrease that unwanted bra bulge.”
Diet is also a key in eliminating stubborn back fat. Bass recommends eating fresh foods, fewer starches and a sensible amount of fat. “Breakfast is a big stimulus for metabolism,” he says, “so don’t skip this meal.”
