Celebrity hairstylist Harry Josh has been at the top of the industry for years. From Miranda Kerr to Gwyneth Paltrow, his hands have tousled the heads of countless supermodels and celebrities. However, he’s probably most known for being the man behind Gisele Bündchen’s envious—and seemingly effortless—beach waves. Luckily, he shared his go-to products and the exact steps to take so you can get her same, summery look at home.

To achieve this look, Josh revealed in an interview with the Coveteur that he uses a curling iron as his tool of choice. To prep the hair for curling, Josh relies on hair products in order to start with a good base. “When it comes to creating bodacious hair that’s full of volume and texture, product is key,” he says. “I never work without using a mousse.”
His mousse of choice? The John Frieda Frizz-Ease Curl Boosting Mousse ($7). He says the mousse works great on all hair types—even if you don’t have frizzy hair—because it provides hold without making the hair stiff. This allows you to rework the hair after it’s styled without losing any curls.
After the mousse, Josh either uses a one-inch iron (from his own line of hair tools, of course) on thin hair, or a one-and-a-half-inch iron on hair that holds curls easily in order to get the look. He warns that if you’re using the one-inch iron, the curls may appear tight, however, keep in mind that they will eventually fall a bit flatter.

Once your head is fully curled, you can either flip your head over and shake out your hair, or use a diffuser to transform the ringlets into rough waves.
Finish off the look with a spritz of hair spray or a texturizing product to create a “bedhead look” (Josh uses the Serge Normant Dream Big Instant Volumizing Spray ($25) when styling his celebrity clients), and keep in mind that hair color can alter how your waves ultimately look. According to Josh, the roughness of Gisele’s waves appears exemplified because her hair is blonde, but following these steps on darker hair may yield a sleeker yet equally gorgeous look.
