Most of my jeans bear an Old Navy or Gap label, but being the daughter of two fashion-industry veterans, I’m not above-or, perhaps, below-coveting high-end denim. In fact, I have a pair of Rock & Republic jeans sitting on the back of a chair in my bedroom, waiting for me to take them to the tailor to make them more 5’5″-friendly. But much to my surprise and delight, I recently learned that Rock & Republic now makes something that fits everyone, regardless of size or height: cosmetics.
Even though Rock & Republic are denim experts, I immediately put my trust in the brains behind their beauty collection and reached for the two products that appealed to me the most: Classic Tinted Primer SPF 20 and Trickery Tinted Illuminizer. Although neither formula is technically foundation, I quickly learned that, together, they eliminate the need for it by totally transcending it.
I’m a fan of primer, but I’ve never experienced one quite like Classic. It offers just the tiniest hint of mattifying tint to give you a head-start on coverage. The texture is absolutely magical, too, with an application so silky, you can hardly believe it has sunscreen attributes.
As for Trickery, there’s some serious sleight of hand-or skin-at work here. You can use it as a highlighter in key spots, or, as I prefer, you can spread it all over your face like foundation, and just watch your complexion glow. The fresh-faced finish is due to light-diffusing polymers and an oil-absorbing formula that leaves you looking dewy-not shiny. (Big difference!)
Although it’s entirely possible to wear foundation over Classic or under Trickery, I simply found no reason to do so. This pair creates an impossibly radiant look that-for me, at least-flatters in a way no foundation ever has.
And besides, nothing goes better with jeans than a flawless face.
