I wear SPF on my face every day. Staying protected from the sun keeps my complexion in balance and (fingers crossed) is delaying the dreaded signs of aging. But while my dermatologist might approve of my snow-white skin, I still feel my best with a natural, sun-kissed tan. Unfortunately, it’s been difficult to replicate the perfect color sans the sun. For this reason, bronzer has become a permanent step in my minimalist beauty routine.
However, achieving that perfect summer glow, even with bronzer, is tough and sometimes a little messy. In my experience, trial and error with different brands, formulas (creams, gels, pressed powders, loose powders, etc.) and colors is the easiest way to find your best bronze.
Clinique Superbalanced Powder Bronzer ($34) is a great pick for someone of the “less is more philosophy” looking for a modest and natural glow. New for summer and packed with minerals and antioxidants, the limited-edition compact contains a pressed powder turned loose by the built-in shaver, which dispenses just enough of the long-wearing, oil-free powder when rotated. The buildable formula leaves a subtle bronze that’s not overdone and thanks to its unique packaging: a mess-free application as well. For complete leakage protection, the compact comes inside a mini, floral makeup pouch for safe transporting. The end result is a natural tan-the closest I’ve come to the real thing yet-that is much healthier.
