Makeup products with SPF are usually between SPF 5 and 15, which is not appropriate for direct sun exposure. I always encourage my clients to wear a minimum of SPF 15 when exposed to the sun, and the higher the better! Repeat application throughout the day is necessary as well.
Makeup is also not applied everywhere that sunscreen should be, and we often miss the neck, ears and hairline. It is important to apply sun protection at least a half-inch into the hairline and also on the tips of the ears and back of the hands.
You must also have an SPF alternative for days or times when you do not wear makeup, such as working out outdoors or spending time outside on weekends.
