Wrinkles arise from a loss collagen, elastin and fat as we age. While there are different degrees of wrinkling-superficial ones that sit on the surface of the skin, and folds that are more deeply etched in-each can be corrected.

Fine lines and superficial wrinkles can be treated with hyaluronic acid fillers such as Juvederm, Perlane and Restylane, which deliver moisture directly into the wrinkle, plumping it up and smoothing the skin. Many plastic surgeons and dermatologists use a technique called volumetric enhancement, in which the tissue above the wrinkle is injected with a filler to lift the fold, as well as injecting the filler into the line itself.

For those with deeper wrinkles and excess skin, a facelift is the best option. As the aging process progresses and tissues descend or sag, repositioning the tissues with surgery becomes the preferred approach. However, if your wrinkles are limited to a certain portion of your face, a mini facelift may be a more appropriate option.
