If you ask someone who their role model is, odds are that most of them will say their mother. We look to her for advice on love and life, as well as for beauty tips. Many mother-daughter duos bond over trips to beauty stores and spas, but some are taking bonding to a whole new level.

We’ve reported on couples getting plastic surgery together, but surgeons say that mothers and daughters often go under the knife together too. In fact, when we talked to Centennial, CO, facial plastic surgeon Brent J. Smith, MD, he reported that he’d seen two mother-daughter pairs that week—one pair wanted fillers and the other wanted nose jobs.

In addition to these procedures, many duos come in for anti-aging surgeries like facelifts and eyelifts. “We tend to age the same way that our parents aged,” says Dr. Smith. “Many times, the daughter wants to be proactive to avoid aging like their mother, and mother wants to get back to the way she used to be.”

While the vast majority of patients end up doing surgery alone, Dr. Smith says it’s great to have a “buddy” while undergoing surgical enhancements. “It’s important to have a support system and it makes it easier to go through a process with someone. When you’re going through it with someone, the healing process doesn’t seem as dramatic.”

While it’s great to have that support system, it’s also important that each patient’s concerns are addressed individually. “If they’re an appropriate candidate, having their own issues addressed and not trying to copy each other, then its very reasonable to go in together,” says Newport Beach, CA, plastic surgeon Sanjay Grover, MD. “That comradery and support gives them encouragement to have the procedure done.”

But that doesn’t mean everyone agrees. So we want to know, would you consider undergoing a procedure with your mother or daughter? Should it be a bonding moment? Tell us in the comments below.
