They may have the same suffix, but Botox and Tritox are not created equally; yet a Las Vegas physician and his practice-managing wife tried to pass off the lower-quality substitute as the real deal-and got caught.

On Monday, Dr. Stephen Seldon and his wife Deborah were sentenced to several years in prison after using Tritox on unknowing patients and charging them Botox prices. Tritox, which costs half as much, is not FDA-approved and is clearly labeled “for research purposes only, not for human use” by the Arizona manufacturer.

The scheming couple, convicted in November, was also fined $144,000.
