When it comes to getting a better body, we’re always told that it’s all about diet and exercise. While we’re not discounting the importance of both, there are other elements that go into the equation—some of which you have no idea about—that help your efforts to make your body that much better.
Fat can do wonders when it’s used properly. Atlanta plastic surgeon Carmen M. Kavali, MD, says that most people just want to get rid of their extra fat and discard it. “But, we can take the fat that’s removed from liposuction and use it to contour the buttocks or smooth out scars.” The best ways to use fat to your advantage is through a fat grafting procedure, which doesn’t always leave you with a larger backside (not everyone wants that). “We suction fat out from where it’s abundant, like the hips or stomach, treat it, and then transfer it to an area where it’s deficient,” says Beverly Hills, CA, plastic surgeon Ashkan Ghavami, MD, who adds that fat transfer can also reduce the appearance of cellulite. “By adding fat to flatter areas like the butt, the skin is being stretched up, so the condition improves.”

Inside tip: Beware of before-and-after photos that look too good to be true. “Some plastic surgeons lie to patients about how much volume they put into the buttocks,” says Dr. Ghavami. The best way to avoid this is to do your homework and only seek out reputable surgeons.
