As far as where we go to buy lipstick, it’s safe to say that Facebook is not really on our radar. Well that’s about to change.

According to Racked, Facebook has launched a feature with augmented reality app ModiFace to allow you to see what 900 different lip products look like on you. And the way it works will pretty much blow your mind.

The first thing you have to do is to open your Facebook Messenger app and type in Modiface. This can be done both on your computer or mobile phone. A personalized message will greet you “Do you wanna try the virtual makeup try-on? Tell me a lip product that you’re interested in.”

Since I had just finished touting how much I love Dior Lip Glow, I decided to give that a whirl—after all, should need to restock soon.

It took about half a second for Modiface to figure out exactly what product I was looking for and asked if I’d like to try it on. Why, yes. Yes, of course.

The app then asks you to either select a front facing photo, or to take one. Naturally, I chose the selfie route.

Once you send the selfie, Modiface sends you back the same photo with the lip product virtually applied. Dior Lip Glow looked pretty good to me, but as it was a light shade, it was difficult to really get the feel. The try-on photo is also a bit on the small side, and I didn’t see any way to enlarge it.

Naturally, since I was talking to a bot, I threw all manners out the window and simply hit back with “red lipstick.” ModiFace found 111 options.

After scrolling through the first few, I decided to go for Burberry and Urban Decay.

Not bad!

Now if you feel moved enough to buy the product, all you have to do is hit “Buy Now” and the app brings you right to a retailer’s page (in this case, Sephora) to purchase.

Even in the era of Amazon Prime Now and Uber Kittens, we have to say – this tops the list of blow-our-mind amazing technology.
