They’ve been spotted on every other head at music festivals and have gotten their own Snapchat filter, but it’s finally time for flower crowns to retire. Their successor? Face flowers. And what sounds like a ridiculous idea that could only work on the runway, turns out to be a super chic way to rock a no makeup look or cover up a pesky breakout or scar you haven’t been able to get rid of (why wear concealer when you don’t have to?).
Debuted at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi’s Spring/Summer 2017 show during London Fashion Week, models—with help from makeup artist Val Garland and MAC products—wore pressed flowers on their faces and necks for a refreshing look we wish we had thought of ourselves. While not as ready-to-wear, some models also only wore flowers on their lips for an effect similar to the popular Pat McGrath’s Lust 004 kit, focusing all of the attention on lips, which is another huge trend for fall—because regular lipstick is so yesterday.
To achieve the flat look seen on the runways, be sure to dry and press your flowers of choice before applying them all over your face or wherever you’d like to (good-bye, acne). But, because the flowers are going to be on the stiffer and drier side, be sure to load up on moisturizer (like Garland did here) to keep the petals flexible and able to wrap around the curves of your face. If you’re not brave enough to try them on your face (understandable), place the flowers on your chest or back paired with an off-the-shoulder top for a gorgeous farewell to summer.
