As a new mother, 41-year old Eva Mendes has a lot going on. She’s an actress, model, designer, and now, she is wearing a new hat as the ambassador and creative director of a new makeup line called Circa.

We got the chance to sit down with Mendes to find out a little more about the inspiration for the brand and to learn her secrets for a flawless look.

On the new launch of Circa …

“Beautiful packaging was really important to me, and having a variety of shade ranges,” says Mendes.  As a Latina, she has found it difficult over the years to find foundations that really work for her skin tone. When it comes to the brand name Circa, Mendes says she constantly feels inspired by the beauty of women of a certain era and that’s what brought them to the name. “Getting ready for a photo shoot or something, we always work off of inspiration boards and images and it’s from these stunning women who came before us. For instance, a look that we are going for one day would be Diana Ross circa Mahogany or Sofia Loren circa Two Women. That word is constantly part of our every day lingo and we thought it lent itself to this,” she says.

What she loves most from the collection…

“I’ve been leaning really heavily towards the concealer,” says Mendes. With having a new baby in the house it’s no wonder. “It’s an illuminating concealer and it has a little brush and you can apply it obviously where need be, but this is my lifesaver these days. I also am a cream blush girl. Blushes in general, but especially cream blushes,” she says.

Some beauty tips she’s learned over the years …

“It’s all about knowing your face shape. My makeup artist said it’s better for my face shape [a long face shape] to apply blush across the face and even go over the nose—not up and down [your cheekbones] like your mom teaches you when you’re little but across. It breaks up your face and it gives you fuller cheeks. It makes a huge difference in photos,” she says.

“Also another tip is you can use your illuminator on your cupids bow [of the lips] and it creates just a little bit of definition. It’s great on camera,” says Mendes.

Her 5-minute beauty routine …

“For some reason I don’t like spending a lot of time getting ready. I wish I was calm and poised, but I do everything in a rush, I’m super loud. You know, I’ve come to terms with it so I just do what works for me and it’s about having those five products that work for me.  It’s a foundation that I can make as light or heavy as I need it for that day, a cream blush, concealer, a lip butter that moisturizes and our eye crayon—in case I want to do a little smudgey-smudge,” says Mendes. “And that, believe it or not, is it. I can do my makeup in five minutes and really look somewhat decent and ready to face the world.”

Circa is available exclusively at Walgreens stores nationwide.
