There’s really nothing better than a great celebrity clap back, especially when trolls of any kind are rightfully put in their place. That’s why Eva Mendes is getting a well-deserved round of applause from us this week, as she recently responded to an age-shaming troll (sadly, they exist) in the best way possible.

In case you missed it, the whole ordeal started yesterday on Instagram, when Eva shared a short video detailing her gorgeous new long bob cut. Of course, we personally couldn’t get over all the Bardot vibes she was serving us with that padded headband and mid-length ‘do. However, some users couldn’t seem to grasp all that glorious beauty inspo before them.

One commenter, for example, decided to share a very age-ist reply (“she’s getting old”) in the comment section, which got a response from the Once Upon a Time in Mexico starlet. However, instead of indulging in a heated argument with the user in question, Eva took the high road by expressing her gratitude for experiencing the aging process in real time.

Mendes responded to the troll directly, writing: “Yes (you’re right). Thank God I’m getting old. That means I’m still here. I’m gonna be 46 soon and grateful everyday that I’m aging. Was your comment supposed to make me feel bad? It didn’t. It makes me feel grateful. So thank you for the reminder that I’m still here.”

This definitely received a warm response from other Instagram users, as many thanked Mendes for speaking out on the harsh age-ist society we live in. Thankfully, she isn’t the only star to speak out on this topic, as singer Bebe Rexha also rightfully called out a producer who said she was getting too old at only 29. We can only hope for more big name ladies to call out this BS for what it is in the future, as true beauty doesn’t have an age limit
