Sclerotherapy is a well-known treatment for varicose veins in the legs, but did you know it can also be used to treat visible veins on the hands?
This 10-minute treatment is usually performed on one hand at a time over a two- to four-week period. It involves multiple injections to the targeted vessels. You’ll feel the prick of the needle and a slight burning sensation as the solution enters the vessels.
Recovery involves minor swelling, and some tingling or discomfort. Expect to wear an elastic bandage overnight or for several days to promote healing. Within two months, the veins should gradually disappear.
Before they vanish, some patients’ veins may feel a little hard and lumpy. Also keep in mind that, while treated veins don’t come back, new veins can form.
