The idea of an electronic mascara wand that spins on its own coming toward our eyes is a little unnerving, but it’s just one of the emerging technologies that’ll be on hand at the Perfume, Cosmetics and Design forum, scheduled for February in Paris. The forum will feature electronics in cosmetics prominently as well as mobile technology and its impact in the beauty world.
One booming segment is smartphone apps offering tips and tools for consumers. However, there is still a long way to go before the technology reaches its potential. Perhaps the forum will bring some of the pitfalls to light and encourage those jumping on the app bandwagon to use beauty apps as a means to guide consumers rather than attempting to treat them with bogus gimmicks.
Another growing area of interest is the at-home device market. Skin-care devices like the Clarisonic have grown immensely in popularity. With everyone looking for budget-friendly ways to get spa-quality care at home, this is an area we could see reshaping the beauty industry in a big way. We’ll keep you posted on these emerging technologies as they come out.
