Cavemen had it right. Eat things that grow from the earth or are fed from the earth and lift heavy rocks—that’s all you have to do to have the body of your dreams. Or, at least that’s what Paleo lifestyle enthusiasts believe. The Paleo diet (which, in short, basically promotes eating whole plant-based food, grass-fed meat and line-caught fish) has become extremely popular and now, the Paleo fitness craze is starting to take hold.
Based on the idea that we functioned best before processed foods, fitness fads and well, escalators, the Paleo workout takes your body back to prehistoric times when the natural abilities of sprinting, climbing and lifting heavy objects not only kept you alive, but incredibly fit.
The founder of one of these “Cavemen” movements, MovNat, Erwan Le Corre believes that people today live in a “human zoo.” And because we live in “captivity”— obesity, chronic pain and even depression are a result. That’s why he has created a curriculum to help humans rediscover the movement skills of our natural state, which is combined training of walking, running, jumping, balancing, moving on all fours, climbing, lifting, carrying, throwing, catching, swimming and defending oneself. MovNat offers 2-day workshops all over the country and also has up to 7-day fitness retreats in the wilderness.
What do you think? Would you like to take your fitness off the treadmill and on to the trees?
