Whether you’re looking to show up to a holiday party sporting a completely new style or just want something different as we segue into 2017, these styling tricks can help you totally change your ’do—no cutting involved.
Reverse your part.
You may have heard this one before, but it’s tried and true: “I know it sounds too simple, but changing your part is the quickest way to change the feeling of the hair,” says Austin Finley, national creative director for advanced education at Tony&Guy. “A natural part tends to split higher and opens up the face. Parting the hair on the opposite side tends to drop down and sits more on the forehead, which gives your look more of a fashion-forward feel.”

Flip the finish.
As Finley explains, changing your hair’s “finish”—by either encouraging a curlier finish or a smoother finish—can really alter your look, especially if your natural texture is what you usually wear.
Sure, you could pull your hair back in a pony, but there are ways to put hair “up” that go beyond the basic. “Putting a portion of the hair up can quickly change one’s look, especially if the way it’s put up alters the silhouette of the shape,” Finley says. “You can create the appearance of a short haircut instead of it clearly being put into a ponytail or something.”
Finely says he’s a fan of adding a false element that looks real into the hair. “If one is clipping in a fringe, the main thing to note is the tone of hair that is being added. So if you would like for it to be a little more of a statement, as long as it’s within two tone levels of your normal shade, it will stand out while not being too dramatic.”
