The Terrifying Reason Certain Dry Shampoos Have Been Exploding featured image

Without a doubt, it’s pretty safe to say that dry shampoo is one of the best innovations to ever come out of the beauty industry. It’s a major time saver since it allows us to skip shampoo sessions, and often, it’s also the instant solution for saving a style that’s fallen flat. However, while the benefits of dry shampoo seem vast, there’s always been whispers of it’s dangerous side (mainly hair loss and dandruff), but none of that compares to this latest dry shampoo controversy.

According to Refinery29, at least six Ipsy Glam Bag subscribers claim their dry shampoos exploded after accidentally leaving their aerosol cans of Luseta Beauty Volume Reviving Shampoo in the car. The product, which was a part of the brand’s April mailer, at first included a standard warning to customers regarding their dry shampoo that read: “Like other aerosol products, this dry shampoo is flammable, so please exercise care: avoid fire, flame, or smoke during use, and protect from sunlight or heat.”

However, not many people paid too much attention to the warning, and then a few days later (presumably after people experienced the exploding dry shampoos), Ipsy sent out yet another email that warned people against placing their glam bag mailer on the dashboard of their car. Then, this past Friday, Ipsy retracted its warnings and ultimately made the decision to recommend everyone who received the dry shampoo in their mailer to throw it out. “We’re sending this follow-up message because we’ve learned that this product is more sensitive to heat than other aerosol products,” the statement read. “We have received reports from six customers telling us of the Luseta product bursting in their cars.”

Luckily, no one was injured, and Refinery29 reports that the company believes the aerosol packaging may have simply been defective.

So, if you’re one of the people who received this product from Ipsy, it’s recommended to dispose of the dry shampoo as soon as possible by first spraying out all of its contents and then throwing it away. While this may seem like a waste of good product, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Plus, the company is giving all customers who received this dry shampoo in their Glam Bag an additional item in their June mailer, so there’s certainly some good coming out of this scary situation.
