We know, we know, it’s not like all the lushes in the world needed another reason to love champagne (that includes us). But, there’s good news, not only for Ab Fab fanatics, champagne isn’t just good for a buzz this holiday season. There are two new reasons to indulge in some bubbly.
For one, a flute of champagne a day can keep the doctor away for classy ladies as they age, according to a recent study. Research out of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health found that middle-age women who consumed five to 15 grams of alcohol a day will age more “successfully” (as in free from cancer or heart disease), than women who never raise a glass.
Women in New York are also using champagne to slim down. Yes, you read that right. Cara Alwill Leyba recently published The Champagne Diet, on the basis that champagne helped her shed extra weight. According to the author, switching from red wine to 65-calorie-a-glass Laurent Perrier’s Ultra Brut (Kate Moss’ drink of choice), coupled with diet and exercise helped her to de-stress and drop pounds.
Keep in mind, there’s currently no scientific research that shows drinking really helps the process of weight loss, but hey, here’s to hoping and to a longer, healthier life (filled with fabulous fun).
