The transformative powers of a haircut officially have no end. Need proof? Look no further than this Florida woman’s recent chop. The woman, a plantation gate guard with an upcoming wedding in the fall, made an appointment with Sara Pestella, a hairstylist at Avant Garde Salon in Florida, hoping to change up her hairstyle to something a bit more flattering.
According to Modern Salon, the woman’s hair was two-toned and ultra-long, giving her an outdated look. “She always felt like she needed to keep her hair long because of what her dad said: that a woman must have long hair or she wouldn’t be pretty without it,” explains Pestella in the interview. “We disagreed.”

Jeremy Harfield, another stylist at Avant Garde, started off the transformation by first cutting off all the grown-out, brassy color from the woman’s hair. Then, Pestella dyed her remaining hair a brighter blond shade using Aveda color, before presumably cutting a few layers into her hair to add dimension. See every step of the process in the slideshow, below:
Unsurprisingly, this entire process took quite a bit of time to complete. “”I started at 7 p.m. and finished at 2 a.m.,” Pestella says. “No kidding, this transformation was indeed overnight.” In order to help the woman maintain her gorgeous, new look, the Avant Garde Salon owners—Deke and Joseph—are offering her services for a whole year, free of charge.
