Plastic surgeons sing the praise of fat for augmentative purposes for a handful of reasons. But almost any doctor you ask about fat grafting to the body, especially when it comes to the butt, will say that fat sourced from the patient undergoing the procedure is almost always the best choice because it is the most natural and poses the least amount of threat to the patient.
Well, not everyone listens to their doctor’s advice. And in the case of one woman, she sought out treatment with a beautician (NOT a board-certified plastic surgeon) who injected her buttocks with a series of lamb fat in an attempt to make her but bigger and fuller. While the beautician promised that the injections were safe and would stay in place, that wasn’t exactly the case.

Eventually, the fat migrated from her butt and into her back, hips and legs. Reconstructive surgery was necessary to fix her botched butt.
Pittsburgh plastic surgeon Leo McCafferty, MD, says, “NEVER, NEVER, NEVER have anything injected or placed into your body that is not approved by the FDA. Make sure your physician is certified by a board recognized by the AMA’s Board of Medical Specialties and that your physician has privileges to perform your procedure in a hospital, even if the procedure is scheduled to be done in an office setting. These simple steps will avoid disaster.”
The beautician who performed the treatment, Ana Bertha Diaz Hernandez, was arrested on felony charges and is expected to be sentenced next month.
