When you think of a peel, you probably think of bright red skin and a stinging sensation. But that’s now a thing of the past thanks to a new K-Beauty innovation (they’ve done it again!) called milk peels, which deliver the same results as the at-home peels you’ve come to know, but without the harsh side effects.

The Korean dermatology trend of milk peeling—a gentle exfoliating method that uses lactic acid (a key ingredient in milk) to deliver smoother, brighter, more hydrated skin—has moved from the doctor’s office to beauty stores across the globe. Enter Dr. Jart+ Dermaclear Micro Milk Peel ($42), which is one of the best I’ve tried.
In addition to removing dead skin cells that make your skin look dull and discolored, the peel also helps minimize the look of lines and wrinkles with each use. The combination of alpha and beta hydroxy acids with skin-soothing coconut milk and squalene gives skin the TLC it needs, leaving it incredibly soft, smooth and nourished. You can finally do a peel before a big date night for a soft, dewy glow without worrying about any redness or irritation.
To use it, just soak one of the included cotton pads with the liquid solution (a mix of “peeling water and moisturizing milk”) and then gently rub it all over your face (I also do my neck). Let it sink in for one minute and then rinse. Note: Each side of the pad has a different texture (one is softer than the other), so you can determine which is best for your skin type. The softer side is good for sensitive skin, but I like to use both, starting with the gauze side for a little more exfoliating action and then switching to the softer side for a final polish.
