Does Self-Tanner Protect Skin From The Sun? featured image

You may have noticed that your favorite self-tanner doesn’t have an SPF rating. That’s because, contrary to a common assumption, self-tanner doesn’t offer any protection from UV rays.

Many people are under the dangerously incorrect impression that skin darkened with self-tanner is better-protected from the sun. However, just because your skin looks tan doesn’t mean you’re shielded from sunburn and other kinds of damage. A separate sunscreen is still necessary.

Even if your self-tanner has an SPF rating (which is highly unusual), it’s very important to continue using a daily sunscreen because most self-tanners aren’t applied every day.
