Fat transfer is becoming a popular option for women who want to slightly increase their cup size without getting implants. The procedure is gaining more popularity but still questions remain. One of them, which we continue to hear, is if the breasts will still be susceptible to weight-related changes after the fat-grafting procedure.
Let’s set the record straight: If you undergo fat transfer to the breasts, your breasts are not immune to any weight-related changes. The breasts are affected just as much by weight gain as any other part of the body.
If you’re naturally inclined to gain weight in your breasts, then there is little that can be done to change how and where fat gets deposited. And with more interest in fat transfer to the breasts (the procedure is still considered experimental), there is concern over how potential weight gain will play into breast size. “Fat cells increase in size when weight is gained. The areas with the most fat cells increase the most in size. Fat injections to the breasts supplies the area with more fat cells so there is more of a chance of gaining weight in that area, especially if you don’t follow a proper diet and exercise,” says Encino, CA,plastic surgeon George Sanders, MD.
