Philosophy

As the proud owner of Dermatology Associates of Rochester, a practice that was started by her father more than 30 years ago, dermatologist Dr. Lesley C. Loss says treating patients like family is the foundation of her work. “At an early age, I saw how much he loved his career as a dermatologist and I was inspired to do the same,” she explains. It’s this foundation that has allowed her to provide patients with a home away from home to treat their aesthetic needs. “We’ve been performing facial rejuvenations with Botox Cosmetic, fillers and lasers for almost 20 years, and now have a dedicated cosmetic center for these procedures and a medspa where we offer medical-grade skin-care products and noninvasive services,” she adds. In addition to cosmetic dermatology services, Dr. Loss and her team participate in numerous clinical trials for new treatments for conditions like acne, psoriasis and hyperhidrosis.

  1. What is your approach toward aesthetics?
    To deliver natural-looking enhancements that help my patients age gracefully
  2. Why is adopting a good skin care routine so important?
    Taking care of your skin now will contribute to younger-looking skin as you age
  3. What new services are you excited to offer?
    Without a doubt, our PicoWay laser, which is the gold standard in tattoo removal, and also the Vbeam® Prima for rosacea, warts and numerous benign skin concerns
  4. Why do you employ a less-is-more philosophy?
    My goal is to provide the most subtle enhancements in such a way that you still look like yourself, but well-rested and with radiant skin
  5. What nonsurgical trends are you seeing at your practice?
    CoolSculpting® for noninvasive fat reduction. We have performed thousands of treatments and have seen incredible results
  6. What are you best known for?
    Being kind and listening to my patients and staff
  7. What do you think the biggest skin-related trend of the year is?
    Preventive treatments starting at a younger age. For example, Botox Cosmetic to prevent number “11” lines and crow’s-feet from forming during your 20s and 30s

    We offer current, state-of-the-art noninvasive to minimally invasive procedures to address many aspects of the aging process in a warm, caring, comfort-focused environment

    Hearing from my patients that they love our staff and our office

    Botox and fillers for a “liquid lift” and CoolSculpting for noninvasive fat reduction
  14. How do you provide the safest environment for your patients?
    We are one of the few practices in our region that is accredited by the Joint Commission, whose standards were developed to ensure patient care and services are provided in a safe manner
  15. What one advancement are you most excited about right now?
    I am very excited about the results we are able to achieve for our clients with CoolSculpting. We started performing the procedure in 2011 and it is amazing how far the technology has come in terms of comfort for patients, reduced treatment times and results!

    Not everyone is an ideal candidate for Botox Cosmetic, fillers, CoolSculpting or lasers. We are committed to providing honest assessments to achieve exceptional results
  21. How do you show patients you care post-treatment?
    We strive to call every single patient after their procedure
  22. How do you manage patient expectations?
    I do my best to understand what each patient would like to achieve and provide a candid assessment of how I can help them. I then ask them to share with me their understanding of our conversation so that I know we have communicated clearly with one another. I also make sure to advise them of the benefits as well as the limitations of their treatment
  23. What are you doing differently today for facial rejuvenation?
    Combining various treatments, like dermal filler for volume loss, neuromodulators to relax lines, lasers such as Halo, BBL or ProfractionalTM for skin resurfacing, and Ultherapy®, Profound®or SkinTyteTM for skin tightening
  24. What do you like most about your profession?
    The language of dermatology and how I can translate my knowledge into helping people improve their skin
  25. How does your staff enhance your practice?
    Our staff members are our practice
  26. How are you helping to advance the field at large?
    My colleagues and I are involved in medical and device-based research and participate in phase two, three, and four clinical trials for conditions like psoriasis, actinic keratoses, acne hyperhidrosis, warts, etc. We also participate in our local academic community by engaging in teaching activities, holding key leadership positions with several aesthetic device manufacturers and presenting at local, national and international aesthetic conferences
  27. Why is giving back so important to you?
    The quote “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle” has resonated with me and I think it is our duty as human beings to help one another
  28. How do you manage patient expectations?
    Through education, information and talking to them about what their procedure can and cannot do
