A Minute With
What sets your practice apart?
Our goal is to meld two disciplines, dermatology and plastic surgery, which complement each other so beautifully. We are building a new, multidisciplinary office that better addresses all our patients’ needs.
What are your most requested procedures?
I was the lead investigator of a clinical trial for the treatment of male and female pattern hair loss using platelet-rich plasma (PRP). I lecture nationally and am the lead editor for a textbook on this topic as well as microneedling. I perform these procedures every day to help with everything from balding and skin rejuvenation to acne scarring. Botox Cosmetic and injectable fillers are also common requests.
Why is skin care so important?
The skin is our first defense and first impression. It conveys emotion and experience, so we best take care of it.
Why do you employ a less-is-more philosophy?
For nearly two decades, I trained as a classical ballet dancer. I spent hours in the studio learning how to communicate through the tilt of head, extension of toes and placement of fingertips. This training imbued me with a refined and subtle aesthetic. There is beauty in nuance.
What is your favorite laser procedure?
I like multipurpose lasers such as those used for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. We have a multi-device, multi-wavelength platform that allows us to tailor the treatment intensity based on each patient’s specific needs and concerns.
My ultimate skin-care advice
Don’t smoke. Not socially, not rarely. Never!
What upcoming trend or procedure are you really excited about?
Advancements in the field of skin tightening. There are more devices in the pipeline, and some
have enhanced features that allow easy integration into a multimodal treatment plan combining several popular procedures at once
What is the most common medical myth you’ve ever heard?
That biotin will fix your hair loss. Unless a patient is truly deficient, which is relatively rare, the scientific literature does not support this old wives’ tale
