Look good and feel great with beautiful skin.

Philosophy

Recognized in both local and national surveys as one of the nation’s leading skin-care authorities, Dr. Crutchfield has acquired a lengthy list of honors including the “Gold Triangle Award” from the American Academy of Dermatology and the “Karis Humanitarian Award” from the Mayo Clinic, among others. He prides himself on a “less is more” approach. “I like to do lots of little things to create very dramatic and satisfying results— I tend not to emphasize any one particular treatment,” says Dr. Crutchfield. “I like to carefully listen to my patients and find out what bothers them. I then create a program that blends several techniques to give them the results they desire.”

About My Practice

Why do you combine modalities?

To achieve dramatic results, it is not really about one procedure or product. I like to blend lots of different treatments and products in order to achieve patients’ desired results, just like one would use many different words to construct a beautiful poem.

How would your patients characterize you?

Time and time again, patients say, “I really trust you. I have always felt that you have given me your best recommendations, and I don’t feel like I am trying to be up-sold on procedures or products I don’t want or need.” Many of my patients have expressed that they are so pleased that I always give my honest opinion and a very fair, appropriate recommendation to achieve their results. I believe “less is more,” and that approach gives our patients beautiful and natural-looking results. My patients’ friends should have no idea they’ve had anything done, only that they look fantastic. In fact, I like to say their friends should be “enviously confused.”

What main goal do you have for your patients on a skin-care program?

My goal is to provide the highest-quality skin care in a gentle, natural manner so patients look confident, refreshed and content. I don’t want my patients to look different than their age, just great for their age.

Describe your skin care philosophy.

Less is more. I like to do lots of little things to create very dramatic and satisfying results— I tend not to emphasize any one particular treatment. I like to carefully listen to my patients and find out what bothers them. I then create a program that blends several techniques to give them the results they desire. As a clinical professor of dermatology, I teach to strengthen my specialty and keep my skills sharp to provide the highest quality of care I can for my patients.

FAQs

  1. How can I get rid of the smoker's lines around my lips?
    What our experts say:

This is a common concern, and I see patients every day that ask the same question, but also many say that they are not smokers. The lines around the lips come from genetic factors and time and sun exposure. These lines are very difficult to treat, and one of the common complaints from patients is that their lipstick will run into the small cracks and lines around their lips. I use a combination approach of a very mild muscle relaxer such as Dysport or Botox [off label] and then I do a series of very light injections right into the lines with massage. I usually do this monthly for two to three treatments to achieve a very nice result.

  2. What are the best options for reducing the appearance of cellulite?
    What our experts say:

This is one of the toughest of all cosmetic dermatology problems. There is nothing that works as well as LipoDissolve Ultra for the treatment of unwanted cellulite. Most other treatments such as pressure, stimulation and vacuum stimulation are only temporary fixes unless they are repeated on a regular basis for a lifetime to maintain results. With LipoDissolve Ultra, we see 40 to 50 percent of patients have a significant and appreciative diminution in cellulite. We know of no other treatment that offers 40 to 50 percent of patients a permanent reduction in cellulite.

  3. When will I see the results from cryolypolisis, a fat melter?
    What our experts say:

I have many patients report they start seeing results after two weeks with maximum results seen in approximately 10 to 14 weeks. The procedure is successful in 80 to 90 percent of cases. The majority of patients will require just one treatment; however, we are seeing that anywhere from 20 to 40 percent of patients will ask for a second treatment in the same area for additional improvement.

  4. Which laser treatments are best for sun damage?
    What our experts say:

We use a combination of the new NeoStrata Skin Active program with the Alma Celebrity Peel program, which is an intense photofacial and a light pixel ablative laser peel. We combine this with mild alpha hydroxy acid peels and special Skin Active skin-care products that contain retinols, sunscreens, anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. The overall program we put together works very well to reverse the signs of sun damage.

  5. How does cryolipolysis, a fat melter, work?
    What our experts say:

It works very simply. When you freeze adipocyte cells or fat cells, if you chill them down to near freezing, the cells themselves will gently break open and die. When this happens, the contents are naturally cleaned up over a five to ten-day period and volume reduction in that area starts to occur. In our clinic, we use the new CoolSculpting by Zeltiq and have had tremendous results.

  6. Do fillers in the lips re-stimulate collagen?
    What our experts say:

Yes. Fillers can re-stimulate collagen in any area that they are injected. The mechanism of collagen production is poorly understood, but emerging theories say that it has to do with pressure on the fibroblasts in the localized area, which causes the fibroblasts to produce additional collagen. We also use platelet-rich plasma injections such as Selphyl to directly stimulate collagen production by fibroblasts by reintroducing the patient's own cytokines, growth factors and platelets into the area.

  7. How many treatments do I need to see a difference in the appearance of cellulite? And how often?
    What our experts say:

With LipoDissolve Ultra, we recommend four to six treatments spaced out four to six weeks apart. Most patients will notice a diminution in cellulite after the second treatment.

  8. What do you recommend to treat old acne scars?
    What our experts say:

In our clinic, we use a five-step process for the treatment of acne scars. First, I tell my patients that it is impossible to change a scar back into normal skin. Nevertheless, with acne scars, step one is we use Selphyl platelet-rich plasmas. This is where we take the patient's own serum containing concentrated cytokines, growth factors and platelets and gently inject right into the acne scars. We massage this in, and it starts collagen production in the area to fill it in naturally. At the one-month mark, spaced out every two weeks for the next four months, we do a series of saline injections. The saline, injected right into the scar, puts pressure on the fibroblasts that are already primed to produce collagen to increase the collagen production. Additionally, we use a Skin Active peel program and light pixel laser peels to continue and encourage ongoing improvement in acne scars. Finally, if there are any scars that are stubborn, we will inject a filling agent such as Restylane or Juvederm [off label] to complete the treatment cycle.

  9. What does a "liquid facelift" entail?
    What our experts say:

A 'liquid facelift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure to rejuvenate the face. It involves a multiplicity of treatments that work together synergistically for a pleasing result. In my clinic, I use a combination of muscle relaxers (Botox and Dysport), filling agents (Restylane and Juvederm) and agents that rejuvenate the skin such Selphyl platelet-rich plasma treatments. In addition to this, we will use a series of chemical peels and/or light laser peels to complete the effect.

"I can not say how grateful I am to Dr. Crutchfield. He is absolutely amazing, professional and very detail oriented. His support staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There is no pushy sales for cosmetic extras - just the honest opinion of what is needed. I had some facial asymmetry at my jaw line and volume loss around my chin. I was so nervous to have this addressed but would not go anywhere else. Dr. Crutchfield dramatically improved my features in just one visit. I could not be more happier. I feel like a new person!!!! Thank you so much!!!"
