Philosophy

When Dr. Micheal Byun meets one of his patients for the first time, he takes his time to listen to their concerns and watch closely to observe the subtle nuances of their unique facial features. “My work begins by tapping into that subconscious knowledge of beauty by examining the shape of the face,” he explains. “When you look at a flower or fine art, it’s a very biologically inclined notion of what is beautiful. For me, it’s all about maintaining the right proportions.” With more than 20 years of experience rejuvenating faces and bodies, Dr. Byun has perfected his techniques to achieve beautiful, noticeable results. He developed the “Byun Method,” or the “Mid-Face Muscle Facelift,” which involves gently moving the muscles under the skin upwards and in harmony, as if reversing the aging process to meet the patient’s needs. “When they come to me and see the changes on my past patients, they find something special. The face looks more vibrant, and that’s what we focus on achieving for them.”

A Minute With

  1. Why did you develop the “byun method”?

I was seeing the effects of the
    overuse of Botox and fillers.
    Too much Botox will weaken
    facial muscles, and fillers over
time can deflate the skin as the
    product wears out. Fat grafting
under the eyes may result in
fatty pockets over the years. The
    answer: repair the muscles!

  2. How do you approach facial rejuvenation?

    With my “Byun Method” facelift.
It was first reported by me at
    Northwestern University, the
    Chicago Plastic Surgery Society
    and the American College of
Surgeons. It is a muscle repair
    without removing any skin.
    The skin just redrapes over
    the repositioned muscle

  3. What are you best known for?

    Facelifts, breast and body
work, facial muscle repair, vertical breast lift and corrective liposuction with a micro liposuction technique.

  4. What is the most common medical myth you’ve ever heard?

    That fillers are an anti-aging
treatment. This is not true. In
my opinion, fillers will make you
age faster at a certain point. Stop
getting injections if you see the
issues that you are treating are
    getting worse, not better

  5. How do you manage patient expectations?

I ask them how old they feel. One
hundred percent of the time they
will say an age younger than their
chronological age. I do my best to
match their face to the age they
    feel on the inside

  6. How do you enhance the patient experience?

Myself and my caring staff walk
    each patient through the entire
    process—from consultation to
    procedure to recovery. We answer
every question and are here to
    meet every patient need

  7. How my patients describe me

    I’ve had many patients
refer to me as “The Doctor
    with Magic Hands”

  8. How i would spend extra time in day

    Painting and spending time
with my wife and three children

  9. The accolade that means the most

    I was the first resident
    chosen by Northwestern
    Plastic Surgery to start and
    finish its integrated sevenyear
    training program
