Today marks a groundbreaking occasion: the first multi-specialty consumer safety campaign designed to clear up confusion and help consumers make safe and educated choices in cosmetic medical treatments.
Aesthetic plastic surgeons (ASAPS), facial plastic surgeons (AAFPRS) and dermatologic surgeons (ASDS) have together formed the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety, with two very clear points: choose a qualified doctor, and make certain anything injected into you is a U.S. FDA-approved brand injectable. The ongoing campaign is designed to bring clarity to consumers interested in cosmetic injectable treatments in a confusing environment where state-by-state regulation of who can legally provide injections varies, and with the estimate that 5% of injectable treatments are off-shore, illegal imports.
Since we launched in 2005, NewBeauty has educated our readers about the proper qualifications of injectors, the FDA status of injectables, and approved and off-label uses for injectables. We’ve also highlighted those specialties that comprise the coalition members as qualified to provide your cosmetic medical treatments. Look to NewBeauty for updates and news about this very important effort. And visit injectablesafety.org, where the safety messages and information on FDA-approved injectables are consistent with what we’ve always offered at NewBeauty, and where you can share your experiences, good and bad, with injectables.
