Demi Lovato Says 2018 Is the Year She Embraces This Body Part

By ·

Looking at this image of Demi Lovato, it’s hard to find something wrong with it. She looks happy, relaxed and ready to ring in the new year. But the singer says when she looks at herself in this photo, all she sees is a part of her body she is insecure about. However, in the spirit of the new year, Lovato posted the photo on social media anyway, despite the fact that she is unhappy with how one specific part of her body looks.

Surprisingly, the 25-year-old singer is referring to her legs. Although we may be used to seeing Lovato dominating the stage in a pantless body suit, she says it’s a part of her body she is highly critical of and ultimately, she wants to change the way she perceives herself. “So, I’m insecure about my legs in this picture but I’m posting it because I look so happy and this year I’ve decided I’m letting go of my perfectionism and embracing freedom from self-criticism. Learning to love my body the way it is is challenging but life changing,” she wrote.

For Lovato, the journey to get to this place of self-acceptance has been long, and at times, very public. The former Disney star has been very candid about her history of feelings of low self-worth, drug use and an eating disorder. She has publicly admitted to being drug-free for seven years, but readily admits that her eating disorder is still a daily struggle: “Giving up my eating disorder has been the most challenging journey of my life but I work every day toward solid recovery even if I mess up sometimes.”

For now, the star is looking forward to accepting her body exactly the way it is and is encouraging her followers to do the same. “Today I’m feeling strong. You all can do it too. It IS possible,” she added. “Thank you God for this new chapter in my life. #EDrecovery #happyAF.”
