What’s your morning like?
Depending on how many times I hit the snooze button, usually 6:30 a.m.-ish. My husband brings me coffee in bed and we talk for a little and snuggle with our pets. Then I catch up on news on sites like WWD, NY Times and the local daily ones on my iPad. It’s good to get the lay of the land before heading out for the day. I take a hot bath every morning, and then moisturize with oil. I like to use one of our citrus Sweet Soy oils in the morning since they’re skin brightening and help with mental clarity. I wash with our Almond Blossom Body Wash followed by Sweet Soy Calendula and Orange Oil on my legs while shaving. My core skin care regimen is our Fine Herbal Cleanser, Nourishing Lavender Milk, Pure Complexion Tonic and Complexion Conserve. I use our hair care products, although they haven’t launched yet for retail, but only as the amenity shampoo and conditioner for select hotels. I use our Lip Softener all day long and keep Hand to Heel in my car so I can use it on my nail beds when I’m stopped at red lights. Another daily use product is our Classic Waters that I spritz whenever I’m feeling wilted and need a soft, settling lift. I love Rosewater & Glycerin.
When it comes to picking out an outfit, I really have to see how I feel and check out what the weather’s like, but nine times out of 10 I wear black. Around 8 a.m. I eat breakfast and have one poached egg on toast with spinach, olive oil, salt and pepper (with sliced garden tomatoes in the summer) and a green smoothie for the road. It usually takes me an hour and a half to get out the door, unless I start reading emails, and then who knows how long it will take!
Describe a typical day at work.
There’s not really a typical day. I can be all decked out for a photo shoot one day and then in a hairnet and lab coat the next. In between breakfast and lunch, I have a midmorning bowl of miso soup. While on the topic of soup, we have a soup fetish at our office; so right around noon we explore the soup menus online from around town. We decide what sounds especially delicious and then someone runs out and gets a bowl for everyone, followed by Gin Gins and a cup of tea.
What do you do after work?
I love having an open end of the day where I can gauge my energy level and decide what is best. If it’s rainy, I’ll either see a movie or go to yoga, especially if the next day is super full. I love swimming in the ocean during the summer, but sometimes I have dinner meetings, or I’ll meet friends or I’ll head to Providence, RI to see my daughter (she’s a student at Rhode Island School of Design). Sometimes it’s good to commit to something new and stretch your boundaries a little. So this summer, every Monday night through August, I’m taking sailing classes on Newport Harbor. I spend a lot of time in the fields and farmlands around here so getting out on the water will be a nice balance.
For dinner, my go-to is a fresh arugula salad with grilled chicken breast and homemade lemon vinaigrette around 6:30 p.m. An easy meal like this gives me some downtime to prep and cook while I’m home in my kitchen listening to NPR. This is my favorite kitchen ritual.
Are there any new products you’re excited about?
Yes! We have four new core beauty products launching later this year!
Are there any interesting steps in your beauty routine?
Nasal irrigation. It’s such an important step in my cleansing routine in the morning and occasionally at night.
What would we be surprised to know about you?
If you order from Farmaesthetics, I may have hand-poured the product that’s in your shipment! I love getting on the floor to infuse oils and work with my team. It’s good for all of us and helps me keep in touch with our customers!
