Once upon a time, women for miles around complained of hair color that was too light, others complained of hair that was too dark, and all of them begged for a color that was just right. Then, a noble scientist stumbled upon a discovery that would change the world of hair color. And it turns out that Goldilocks may soon become more than a fairytale.
Fairytale language aside, a team of French scientists, led by Dr. Philippe Walter, recently did discover that hair can actually synthesize gold nanoparticles into the cuticle. That’s right, it’s actually possible to dye your hair with gold.
The researchers found white hair turned pale yellow and then dark brown after being soaked in a gold compound solution. Plus the particles stayed in the hair after numerous washes unlike other hair dyes.
While this discovery has opened up more possibilities to create long-lasting hair color, the one drawback is that the color changed when it was applied to the hair. Further testing is needed, but it’s likely that a happily ever after is on the horizon for your hair color.
