In the world of cosmetic procedures, women were the majority of patients, making up over 9.6 million treatments performed last year alone. You might be surprised to learn, however, how many men are also getting work done. From breast augmentations to eyelid surgeries find out how these two groups compared when bettering their appearance last year according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Statistics on Cosmetic Surgery Report.
Women Are Increasing Their Breast Size
Enhancing the look of breasts with breast augmentation was the second most popular procedure with over 286,000 performed last year. With so much more information available as well as newer implants on the market that deliver a higher level of customization, this surgical procedure still remains as popular as ever.
But Men Are Getting Rid of Theirs
In comparison, men went for smaller, smoother chests. Male breast reduction for the treatment of Gynecomastia, a hormone imbalance that causes male breast tissue to swell, increased by 7.1% this year and 117% since 1997.
Women Wanted Flatter Stomachs
Whether it’s getting that pre-baby body back or camouflaging stretch marks, tummy tucks were also big with women last year. Over 156,000 procedures were done, coming in third in popular treatments in 2014.
Men Wanted Younger Looking Eyes
While women wanted slimmer midsections, men wanted younger looking eyes. 27,265 eyelid surgeries were performed in 2014, an effective procedure for sad, droopy eyes as well as under-eye hollows and bags that can seriously age one’s appearance.
Both Men and Women Tackled Body Fat
Despite the differences in the procedures men and women were getting last year, they did have on thing in common – the desire to eliminate unwanted body fat. Liposuction was the top procedure for both genders, with 302,028 of them performed on women while men made up 40,466 of the procedures.
