With the introduction of Evolence, collagen is getting attention as an injectable filler again.

Doctors who have used porcine (pig-derived) collagen are optimistic about Evolence, saying it’s easy to inject, less likely to cause bruising and swelling than hyaluronic acid fillers, and less likely to cause allergic reaction than bovine (cow-derived) collagen. Additionally, studies show it lasts far longer than typical collagen products, with results visible for as long as nine months.

Initial FDA approval of Evolence is for nasolabial folds, but it can be used off-label in other wrinkles and folds. A lighter formulation suitable for fine lines and lip augmentation, called Evolence Breeze, is in the works.
