Ciara once famously said in her hit song Level Up, “I just keep elevating, no losses, just upgrading,” a line that perfectly sums up her career and life trajectory. A good example is just this past year. While many people saw spending more time at home as a chance to slow down, Ciara and her husband, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, kicked things into overdrive by expanding their family (they welcomed a son fittingly named Win Harrison, who joins siblings Future Zahir, 6, and Sienna Princess, 3), creating their fragrances and a new fashion line, The House of LR&C. You can also add philanthropists to their list of accomplishments, as all of their projects contribute proceeds to the Why Not You Foundation, an organization founded by Wilson dedicated to fighting poverty and empowering youth.
With the challenges of quarantining as a family with a new baby, and running an empire, it’s been a very busy year for the power couple. However, the singer—who recently announced losing almost 30 pounds of post-baby weight with the help of WW—still found time to sit down with us and share the details of her latest project and how she balances it all while looking so good.
You’ve had such a busy year with the birth of your third child in what’s now known as one of the most difficult years of our lifetime. What do you credit for staying strong and keeping it together during a global pandemic?
It was a hard year for everyone, and being quarantined while pregnant with two toddlers at home made time move even slower. However, I have to credit my husband and family for being constant reminders to look at the silver linings despite the uncertain times we are living in. We have very busy careers, so our world is normally what I call ‘organized chaos,’ however the pandemic made us really slow down for the first time and be grateful for the quality time.
You just turned 35—another big milestone—and yet you haven’t aged a day since your first album. What is your approach to anti-aging?
I am a mom of three, so due to lack of time, I like to keep my self-care routines as simple as possible. However, my number-one tip is to drink lots of water! I try and drink about a gallon a day to flush out my system. I also make sure to wash my face twice a day.
When formulating The Fragrance Duo, which scents, moods and feelings were you aiming for?
I was very particular with what I wanted my fragrance to embody: That fresh feeling when you walk out of a shower with a sexy touch that is long-lasting. We wanted to create signature scents that each left their mark in the air in a subtle yet iconic way. Even if you are staying at home, you can make an effort to feel good and better about yourself when wearing fragrance, always keeping it fresh, hot and sexy.
Do the two fragrances play off of each other?
The beauty of The Fragrance Duo ($90) is that they are the perfect complement to each other—they are definitely the ideal scent for us! However, you don’t need to be a couple to wear and appreciate them. The two fragrances have a freshness and sensuality that can be enjoyed in so many ways. You can also mix the two scents, which is really cool, too.
What was it like working with your husband during the formulation process, and did you learn anything about each other along the way?
The journey of partnering on this fragrance was very special and so much fun. We had to create our scents during quarantine, so each time we got delivered a new scent to try, we would turn our fragrance-testing meetings into at-home date nights. We were able to spend so much quality time together testing different blends until we found our perfect scent.
Earlier this year, you went public with your post-pregnancy weight loss. So many people are finding it hard to be successful right now. How were you able to achieve this, and do you have any tips for others?
In the past, I have followed some pretty regimented plans to stay in shape that were not sustainable. At this stage in my life, I want to be sexy and fit, but as a mom of three, I also want to be healthy and enjoy all things in balance. WW gave me the balance I needed to fit into juggling mommy life, running my businesses and exercise. A big component of getting healthier and losing weight is learning more about what you’re eating to fuel your body, and the behaviors you can easily change one step at a time.
When do you feel the most beautiful?
I feel the most beautiful at home with my family in a T-shirt and jeans with no makeup on.
What are your beauty and wellness goals for 2021?
I am working on leveling up my beauty and wellness journeys and accomplishing the new goals I’ve set for 2021. So far, I like how it’s starting!
