A recent study by the University of Michigan substantiated the opinion of those who believe carbon dioxide laser resurfacing treatments are the gold standard for wrinkle removal.
According to the researchers, this kind of procedure is more effective than some newer wrinkle treatments due to cells’ collagen-producing response to the damaging vaporization of water molecules.
“Use of the laser allows precise treatment, giving the surgeon more control over the resurfacing procedure than is possible with other techniques such as chemical peels and dermabrasion,” Dr. Daniel Ward and Dr. Shan Baker wrote in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery.
While the results are very pleasing, the study participants weren’t free from side effects, which included discoloration, herpes and cold sore outbreaks, and acne or milia eruptions. Researchers report that all were resolved with treatment.
