It’s not often we get statistics about plastic surgery across the entire world. But this week The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) has released the results of the third annual statistical analysis: Global Study of Aesthetic/Cosmetic Surgery Procedures Performed in 2011.
With help from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) and the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (SBCP), the study performed during 2012 invited nearly 20,000 plastic surgeons to participate.
It appears that across the globe, liposuction is the more performed cosmetic surgery, representing almost 20 percent of total procedures. For nonsurgical procedures, Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox and Dysport) takes the number one spot with roughly 38 percent of total procedures.
Surgical procedures varied in popularity across different countries but the United Sates, Brazil, China, Japan and Italy took the top five slots for most dominant countries for surgical procedures. As for the number of practicing board-certified (or the national equivalent) plastic surgeons across the world, the survey estimates 32,000.
