A popular British department store called Debenhams has seen a major increase in new customers at their brow bars, but surprisingly, the names in the appointment books read like a fraternity roster.
Men now make up 40% of the store’s eyebrow-grooming patrons, and they seem to be taking to threading, the ancient technique that removes a row of hair at a time. While most men book their first appointments to get cleaned up for a special occasion, the store reports that a majority are coming back for upkeep visits.
“As with self-tanning and facials, the taboo around eyebrow shaping is quickly disappearing,” Sara Stern, Director of Cosmetic Merchandising, said in a statement. “Men are recognizing the power of a groomed brow to frame the face and create a sexy James Bond-style arch when raised.”
Men come in with bushy unibrows and leave with a neat, spruced-up look, sometimes with the help of dyeing in addition to threading. But Debenham’s aestheticians are careful to not go overboard.
“The over-plucked feminine look favored by Sylvester Stallone however is a serious no-no,” Stern assures. “A quick tidy-up in the style of Jude Law is all that’s needed.”
Do you think your husband, boyfriend or brother would be willing to try threading? Could this catch on with regular guys in America? Tell us what you think by leaving a comment below.
