A new study reveals that curbing carbohydrates is more effective than cutting calories for those looking to quickly remove the amount of fat in their liver. If you have doctor’s orders to reduce the amount of fat in your liver, you can do something within a month, says the study’s lead author.
The results, which will be available in the upcoming American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, could affect diseases such as diabetes, insulin resistance and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). This disease, characterized by high levels of triglycerides in the liver affects about one-third of Americans and can cause liver inflammation, cirrhosis and liver cancer.
There is still more research to be done on low-carbohydrate diets and liver fat. However, the doctors behind the research emphasize weight loss, regardless of the method, is the most effective way to reduce liver fat.
