The search for a truly effective cellulite fix seems never-ending, but the not-too-far-off future may hold a promising answer to this common problem. According to a study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, combining laser energy treatment with fat transfer or transplantation may help to significantly improve cellulite.
An Nd:YAG laser used on the affected areas has been shown to stimulate collagen production and tighten; while, on a deeper level, the laser also worked to reduce fatty tissue. Following the treatment, injections of the patient’s own fat were administered to plump dimpled sections.
The study, which treated 52 women between the ages of 18 and 47 with severe cellulite and no history of liposuction, reported that improvement was visible, though some mild, temporary side effects were reported in some participants.
Although the preliminary study shows encouraging results, more studies need to be performed to obtain a final conclusion on this combination’s effectiveness.
