It may look cute, but if you consistently wear your hair in a tight ponytail, bun, braid or updo, it could lead to a condition called traction alopecia. This is a common type of hair loss caused by trauma to the hair follicles from pulling hair too tightly.

Traction alopecia must be diagnosed early on because, if not, it could damage the hair follicle over time, causing it to be incapable of growing a healthy hair. The long-term tension on the hair will eventually lead to breakage in the outermost hairs.

To keep strands healthy and prevent this kind of hair loss, be sure to wear your locks loose and down as much as your wear them pulled up and back.
