Take a look at the ingredients your favorite body-slimming cream or gel-there’s a good chance you’ll see caffeine listed. Beauty brands have long believed that it helps firm up flabbiness, and recent Brazilian research supports this claim.
University researchers provided 99 women with cream containing a potent 7% caffeine solution. After one month of twice-daily application, the results were apparent: The vast majority of the women had a measurable difference in the circumference of their thighs, and over half saw a reduction of their hips.
What the cream didn’t do is impact cellulite. The imaging instrument used to measure microcirculation in fat tissue showed a negligible difference in that lamented lumpiness. The researchers, however, say 30 days simply might not be enough to make a difference, and that caffeine’s cellulite-stopping potential shouldn’t be ruled out just yet.
