Fit or flabby, it seems all shapes and sizes of women are plagued by a common nuisance: back fat. You know-the lumpy folds right beneath your bra band that stand between you and the confidence to wear a tight top. Because they’re actually more skin than fat, annoying bulges at the mid- to upper-back don’t usually budge with exercise, so surgeons have been hard at work perfecting a new treatment to rid us of those rolls.
The result: the bra-line back lift. The hour-long procedure involves removing up to 10 inches of redundant skin, and then connecting the remaining tissue. Experimental examples of the surgery have shown minimal complications, with all the subjects pleased with the outcome-especially the easiliy-hidden scar, which aligns with the bra line.
“This is an exciting new procedure that gives patients concerned about this area of their body a possible new option to discuss with their plastic surgeon,” ASPS Public Education Committee Chair James Wells said in response to the bra-line back lift study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery late last year.
