Our friends across the pond will have to ante up an additional 20 percent for cosmetic plastic surgery thanks to a new tax introduced by Chancellor George Osbourne that will be applied to procedures like tummy tucks and breast implants. Dubbed the “boob tax,” the income could bring the British government £500 million, or roughly $790 million.
Taxes have been charged for small procedures like Botox injections or chemical peels, but the new tax will be charged unless the physician deems the surgery a medical necessity (a breast reduction to eliminate back pain, for example).
A breast implant procedure costs about $8,000. With the tax, it would bump up to $9,600. What do you think? Will Brits be willing to dip into their piggy banks for the additional cost?
