Being a Marvel actor takes more than just acting, and Brie Larson understood the assignment. With fitness being a priority for the cast of Captain Marvel, Larson tells Insider, “So, I started this journey thinking I’ll get strong and I had no idea. I went far beyond what I ever believed was possible for my body.”

Before Larson was cast for the superhero role, she admits that she couldn’t walk uphill without being out of breath. “I affectionately called myself ‘an introvert with asthma’ before I got to play Carol Danvers and I started training first out of sheer panic.” Now, she looks back at that time in her life with awe. “Being able to hip thrust 400 pounds, deadlift 200 pounds, push my trainer’s Jeep, I mean, it’s an incredible experience to realize what’s inside of you is well beyond what you knew was possible,” she explains.

Relying on celebrity trainer Jason Walsh to implement a fitness routine into her life, she slowly became “obsessed” with the gym. And comments from haters pushed her forward, too. “When people say like, ‘Oh, girls can’t do that,’ it just makes me wanna do it even more,” she says. “So, there were huge accomplishments this time and I just feel like my body’s just getting more and more used to this and more and more excited.”

Based on her Instagram feed, Larson’s daily workouts include pull ups, weighted push ups, weighted squats and lunges, all of which are led by Walsh. By the looks of it, she’s only getting stronger from here.
