If you have sagging breasts that lack firmness or your nipples have begun to point south rather than straight ahead, you may be a candidate for a breast lift. This procedure addresses the two main causes of drooping: stretched ligaments that can no longer support the breasts, and slack skin that doesn’t bounce back after pregnancy or weight fluctuation.
To correct the sagging, incisions are made to sculpt the breast into a new shape and position. Through these incisions, excess skin is removed; the nipple and areola are elevated to a more youthful position, and in some cases made smaller to better match the proportions of the new breast shape. The incision pattern is generally the same as the one used for breast reduction and can involve incisions around the areola, vertically from the areola to the breast crease, or horizontally along the breast crease.
Similar to breast reduction, the scars are the biggest price to pay for the new and improved appearance. However, today’s techniques are far more advanced than those available years ago, and it is often possible to get great outcomes with more limited incisions.
